Letter to Request Reduction and/or Postponement of Rental Payment due to Covid-19 or the Lockdown

Included in this Letter

Due to both Covid-19 and the national lockdown, it could be seen as against public policy for landlords to charge rent during the lockdown or whilst tenants cannot occupy their leased premises.

This letter is addressed from the lessee to the landlord requesting the following:

• A reduction of rental payment amounts in respect of any number of specific months; and/or
• The postponement of rental payments in respect of any number of specific months.

Once the terms of reduction and postponement are agreed in principle, we suggest that our Lease Addendum be utilised to generate a document recording the terms of reduction and/or postponement, in order that they may be signed by the parties and made binding on them.
